Best place for South American Skiing Virgins
If you’ve never skied in South America, Valle Nevado in Chile is the best place to start. It is the newest and biggest of all the resorts. There are trails and conditions to match every skill level—from little kids just starting out to experts looking to extend their ski season. The accommodations are 5-star/world-class. Everything you need is centrally located—lifts, ski school, restaurants, bars, fitness center, pools, daycare, spa—it’s all right there. Valle Nevado interconnects four resorts into one, making it the largest ski area in the Southern Hemisphere. You can ski/snowboard Valle Nevado, La Parva, Farellones, and El Colorado all under one ticket. Each resort offers a variety of terrain but Valle Nevado is best for beginner to intermediate levels with plenty of off-piste (backcountry) runs for advanced/expert riders.

Day Trips
Leave right from the hotel for an epic heli-skiing adventure you will never forget. Valle Nevado offers some of the world’s best heli-skiing with reasonable pricing compared to North America and elsewhere. Go for the day and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the iconic Andes Mountains.

For the non-skiers or if you just want to take a “rest day”—head down to Santiago for a decadent afternoon of culture, cafe food, and wine tasting. There are endless options in Santiago. Spend the morning sightseeing. Stop at a cafe for lunch. Meander through the shopping district in the afternoon. Then, maybe, dinner and a wine tasting before heading back up the mountain.

The View from the Pool
The Valle Nevado outdoor heated pool is set in a spacious deck looking out onto the mountains. The view is incredible and the poolside drinks aren’t bad either.

Pisco Sours
Pisco sours are a local favorite and there is no better place to enjoy this beverage than at the Valle Bar Lounge. After dinner, enjoy a nightcap (or two) at Tres Puntas—maybe even sing a little karaoke or dance the night away. Note: don’t stay up too late if that “first chair” beckons.

The Food
There are several international restaurants right on the mountain serving up French, Italian, and Chilean cuisine— most have impressive wine selections. There are also some great laid-back eateries like Bajo Zero.

Valle Nevado boasts and an average of 80% “Blue-Sky Powder Days”. Elevation and the windblown snow keep the slopes dry and powdery. Meanwhile, sun and clear skies make it a great place to work on your ski-tan.
